BMW Oil Change & Service Guide — LL-01 and LL-04 Spec
BMW requires BMW Longlife-01 (LL-01) or LL-04 certified oil — not generic synthetic. Using the wrong oil causes sludge, deposits, and voids your oil service indicator. Express Auto stocks all BMW-approved oil specs and performs BMW oil service with the correct filter and reset procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions
What oil does my BMW actually need?
Most non-M BMWs require BMW Longlife-01 (LL-01) certified 0W-30 or 5W-30 full synthetic. M engines (M3, M4, M5, M6, X5M, X6M) require BMW Longlife-04 (LL-04) or the M-spec equivalent — typically 0W-40 or 10W-60. Never use conventional oil, "synthetic blend," or oil that is not certified LL-01 or LL-04. The certification is printed on the oil container — not all 0W-30 is LL-01 certified.
How often should I change my BMW oil?
BMW's CBS (Condition Based Service) indicator typically calls for oil changes every 7,500-15,000 miles based on driving conditions. In Bay Area stop-and-go traffic, the interval is shorter. Most independent BMW specialists recommend every 7,500 miles for maximum engine protection. M engines should be serviced every 5,000-7,500 miles.
Can I use Mobil 1 or Pennzoil in my BMW?
Only if it is BMW LL-01 or LL-04 certified. The brand doesn't matter — the certification does. Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 is LL-01 certified. Castrol Edge 0W-30 LL is LL-01 certified. Generic Mobil 1 5W-30 (the red cap) is NOT LL-01 certified. We stock Castrol LL-01 and LL-04 certified oils specifically chosen for BMW applications.
Does Express Auto service BMW M3, M4, and M5 in San Bruno?
Yes. We service all BMW M models — M3 (E90/F80/G80), M4 (F82/G82), M5 (F10/G30), M6, X5M, X6M. We use BMW LL-04 or Castrol Supercar 0W-40 as required for M engines. Oil service includes CBS reset, brake inspection, and a general inspection for common M-model issues.
